How does community solar work?

  • A solar developer has an array within a specific community and offers those in the community (within a specific utility service area) a subscription.

  • Subscribers then receive a credit on their electricity delivery costs. This credit is applied directly on their existing utility invoice.

  • Subscribers then pay the developer 90% of the value of the credit. So, the subscribers receive a 10% discount on their electric delivery charges.

  • These agreements are longer term, provide guaranteed savings, and do not impact supply contracts.
